Is It June Already?! PDF Print E-mail

Greetings from Catacamas!chicken It seems as though the month of May passed by in a blur. May marks the beginning of rainy season here in Honduras, and the grass, the children, and the Village Ambassador are very grateful for a break from the heat. Rainy afternoons mean playing indoors and enjoying a cup of coffee.

The Village chickens hatched a new brood of chicks that can be found strutting their stuff around the houses. The children are enjoying learning from house mom Elda about taking care of the chickens. We look forward to being able to supply all our egg needs right here at the village.

As the rain came, the grass grew tall and thick and we started receiving visits from the neighboring cows. On one Friday, teacher William used the presence of the cows as a PE warm up. The kids were out chasing all the cows off our property. It was quite comical and adorable to see the whole group clapping, shouting and cajoling the cows back through the fence gap.

Also in May, a group of nurses-in-training from Oklahoma Christian University’s HonduraServe Program visited us one Sunday afternoon. We were so grateful for their company, plus they brought with them toothbrushes, toothpaste, backpacks and soap bars. They also brought with them a terrific donation of beautiful soccer balls that were a gift from Kodak. Thank you, OCU nursing students, for coming to visit and spend time with us! We truly enjoyed the afternoon.

The last week in May, Jorge, Kevin and I went to Tegucigalpa to visit the US Embassy. Kevin has another visit to the Scottish Rite Hospital coming up in June and we were working to secure his Visa. The embassy officers were so helpful, and provided us with a 5 year Visa for Kevin’s medical treatment. This means that when Kevin needs to go back for medical care we don’t have to go through the red tape of soliciting an embassy appointment and lining up a mountain of paperwork. This Visa was a free and generous gift from the embassy officers, and will save us lots of time and money in the future!

June has begun and I’ll be hitting the road with Kevin on the 13th. We will be in Texas for his medical treatment and visiting with donors and potential sponsors in the Dallas area. Please pray for our journey, and for Kevin’s treatment. If his x-rays are clear of complications and concerns, it should be a simple visit.

I look forward to updating you after our trip to the States.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership with this ministry.
