Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there!

Mother’s Day is a big deal in Honduras. The kids spend weeks preparing short dramas and songs for their mothers, the school teachers have a tradition of taking all their students’ parents to lunch, and even the church goes to great efforts to honor the mothers in the congregation.

Yesterday was a special day for all our House Mothers as every Por Los Niños child performed a song or poem in front of the congregation. Erick led the younger kids in “Jesus Me Ama” (Jesus Loves me), and Jorge's son, Isai, read a poem that he wrote for his mother.

It was a beautiful celebration of the love of our mothers, and a reminder of how important the work of Por Los Niños is to the children in our care. They consider their house parents their true parents. They are nurtured, supported and raised in faith by the wonderful couples that have sacrificed so much for their jobs. The obvious love between every one of our children and their set of house parents is overwhelming and affirming.

Thank you for joining us in this work. Thank you for loving the Por Los Niños children. Thank you for believing, along with us, that children are tremendous treasures worthy of our love and time.
