Sinia Benitez
Sinia came to Por Los Niños at age 5. She entered the home in January 2001. Her family of 8, which lived
in the remote mountain village of Villa Nueva de Copapan, struggled to survive since the death of their
father from a snake bite in October 2000. The family lived in a small one room hut made of stick and mud
that was the size of a small bathroom. Living conditions were extremely poor. The hut was in poor
condition with one side fallen in. There was no electricity and water had to be carried from a nearby
stream. Unable to provide sufficient nourishment and care for her children since the death of her husband,
Sinia’s mother came to Por Los Niños for help. Upon admission to the home, Sinia suffered from
malnutrition, parasites, anemia and chronic aching in her joints which was investigated. Her social
development appeared to be near normal.
Sinia today loves life at PLN. She is very quiet and shy but will be one of the first ones to give you a hug.
She is a very affectionate girl. Sinia’s sister, Saira joined her at PLN in 2005. They play well together and
are happy to be reunited at PLN.
