Marcos Martinez
Marcos came to Por Los Niños II with his sister, Luz from the mountains. It was a tough life there. He lived
with his father, which was 72, and his mother who was not able to care for him or his two siblings because
of her mental conditions. They all lived in a structure that looked like a chicken coop. There was no
electricity, no indoor plumbing, no running water and no beds for any of them to sleep on, only dirt floors.
Marcos had never left the mountains before he came to live at Por Los Niños. Marcos had parasites and
malnutrition upon being admitted to the home. Marcos was very shy and had a hard time adjusting to his
new life. He wanted to go back and live with his dad. The PLN staff sat and rocked Marcos for the first
week while he cried for his dad. He did not have a lot to say at first.
Today, Marcos talks all the time. Marcos is also now going to school. He is excited about being in school.
He is a wonderful little boy and has a beautiful smile. He likes to play with cars and balls and the other
children.
