Keydi Meza
Keydi began living with her elderly grandfather when her father abandoned the family and her mother was
unable to feed her children. Having lived a life of abject poverty with her grandfather in Las Jagulyas, a
remote mountain in the department of Olancho, Keidy has met the challenge of a new life with courage and
a vivid interest in everything new. What a change… from a bed of sticks shared with her siblings to a bed of
her own…from hunger to plenty of food! The first few days in the home, Keydi could not take her eyes off all
the food in the home. We would remove the food from the table so that she and her siblings would not eat
so much that they would become sick. It is so difficult for a child who has always known hunger to realize
that there will always be another meal and she will never truly be hungry again. Keydi was thin and suffered
from anemia, parasites and grade II malnutrition.
Keydi is the oldest at PLN and takes on the challenge of helping with the younger children and housework.
Keydi has problems with her eyesight and has to have regular visits with the eye doctor. Keydi loves life at
PLN II and looks forward toe very new day!
