Update June 29, 2009
Jessa is in her second semester of college. In Honduras the college semesters are shorter than in the U.S.
The first semester, she took 3 classes during the evening. During the day, she worked as a teacher’s aide
in the computer lab at our school. But this semester, she is taking a full load. She will not able to help at the
school. She has a lot of computer knowledge and helps all the other kids when they have computer
homework.
Jessa Mendez - Bio
Jessa entered Por Los Niños II on January 31, 1996. Abandoned by her father when she was six months
old, Jessa’s mother struggled to provide for her and her two siblings. They existed on a salary of less than
$40 per month. Jessa’s mother could not provide even basic food and care for her children. In her early
years, Jessa lived in the mountains with her mother’s family. They lived in very dire conditions. Jessa
contracted a severe intestinal infection in December 1995. Her progress was slow as she struggled to
overcome the infection and the malnutrition and sever diarrhea which accompanied it. Jessa suffered from
diarrhea, grade II malnutrition, parasites and scabies.
Today, you would never realize that Jessa had such severe problems. She has really strived at PLN. Jessa
is extremely intelligent and has a thirst for knowledge. Jessa is very interested in learning about her country
so that she can become a self-sufficient Christian who will excel in the Honduran business environment.
