History
Richard and La Rue Hilton are people who love children. In 1992, their hearts were
drawn to Central America because they had heard the children there were in great
despair. Needless to say, after traveling there their hearts were touched by the
poverty they witnessed. In response to their trip, Family Life Missions was born with
the goal of helping and healing the children of rural Central America emotionally,
physically, and spiritually.
A central location was searched for, and a place to rent for the first “Por Los Niños”
Children’s Home was found in June of 1994 in Catacamas, Honduras CA.
“Por Los Niños” literally means “for the children.” People were so generous that a
second house was soon purchased. As the organization felt growing pains, it became
evident that a village was needed to care for the children. A search to buy land was
launched, and a ten-year development plan was laid out. The plan was designed for
a central village with six houses, caring for sixty children. The site would include a
storage facility, a school building, and vegetable gardens to produce food.
In 1997, the plans took shape, and work commenced on the “Por Los Niños" village.
The infrastructure, consisting of a well, septic systems, and power was developed.
Then the first house was built. Then the children moved from the rental property
site into the new house at the village site.

"If you want to be complete,
go, sell your possessions
and give to the poor, and
you will have treasure in
heaven. Then come, follow
me.". Matthew 19:21
Part of following Christ is
placing nothing before Him.

young man was sad
because he did not own his
possessions, but rather, his
possessions owned him.

In 1998, tragedy struck Central America. Hurricane Mitch, a category 5 hurricane with
sustained winds of 180 mph, bore down on this area. More than 10,000 people in
Central America died in the storm, and there were 3,000 refugee centers in
Catacamas, Honduras alone. As triumph many times rises out of great adversity, FLM
rose to the children's aid by adding another cottage to the village site, a full year
ahead of schedule. Adding another home at this time was very helpful with the many
homeless children Mitch left in its aftermath.
Now FLM has a full-time staff to take this great work to the next level. We hope to
soon realize our goal of six cottages, together with our elementary school. Our plan is
to house sixty children, educating and preparing them for a bright and hopeful
tomorrow. We strive to be evangelistic and spread the good news of Jesus Christ in
Catacamas. We also want to show the poor of Honduras we are Christians in deed as
well as in word. We have a dream for Honduras. Will you help us fulfill this dream?
Then sixty children will not have to dream of a loving home with food and an
education. Our dream is their dream, too!
