Grisselda Zuniga
Update June 29, 2009
Grisselda just turned 11 years old. She is a tom-boy and enjoys playing outside. She is very protective of
Erlin, her little brother. She is also protective of Bisket, Jeannell’s dog. She is a great baby sitter when Les
and Jeannell go to the U.S. She likes horses and wishes we could have horses at the village.
Grisselda Zuniga - Bio
Grisselda and her brother, Erlin, came to PLN in February 2006. Their family lived in the mountains in a
one room structure. There was no running water, no kitchen and no bathroom. They cooked on a fire
outside the house. They got their water from a stream. There were 6 children living at the home. Their
father is blind and not able to work. Their mother does not work either. She stays at home to take care of
her husband and younger children. The older sisters, ages 11 and 14, work in the coffee field picking
coffee beans. That is the only income the family has. Grisselda was 8 years old when admitted to PLN.
She had parasites and severe malnutrition. We put her on medication and a good diet to care for her
problems.
Today, Grisselda is a very smart girl. She is adjusting well at PLN I. We were able to take her older sister,
Emelina, in several years ago. That has helped with the adjustment. She started school and is doing very
well.
