Born May 3, 1996
Erika Aguilar
Erika entered PLN in April of 1999 at age three. A common story in Honduras, Erica and her mother were
abandoned by her father.  Their family struggled to survive. During this time, her mother raised
subsistence crops with her grandfather and siblings in the mountains near Culmí. In all, thirteen people
were living in their small one room hut. The situation in the mountains became desperate and Erica’s
mother moved to Catacamas to work.  Because she was uneducated, the job did not pay well. Soon after,
this the family was homeless and turned to Por Los Niños for help. Upon admission, Erika was behind in
growth, suffered from malnutrition and parasites. However, her social development was normal. Today
Erica is a shining light that brightens whatever room she is in. Known for boundless energy, she always
has a big smile. She can be a bit of a tomboy, climbing trees and playing rough! She is also a great
student and always looks like a lady on Sunday.
