Cinthia Torrez
Cinthia is a beautiful little girl living in PLN I. She is very shy and needs a little time to warm up to people.
She was living with her family in the mountains. Cinthia’s family is very poor. They live in a one room hut.
They have a dirt floor and the roof is sheets of plywood. There are three other children in the family. Cinthia
is the result of her mother being raped. Her husband struggled to accept Cinthia and inflicted some
emotional abuse on her. As a result, Cinthia was extremely withdrawn and self-conscious and never smiled.
Cinthia had several different parasites and grade two malnutrition when she came to us. She also had a
contagious skin infection . The doctor recommended that we wait to take her until she was clear of the
infection before taking her in. We sent her back to the mountains with enough medicine for the whole
family. Cinthia came to stay with us two weeks later.
Cinthia now lives in PLN I with Francisca and Catalino and the rest of the kids. Cinthia likes to play outside
and swing on the swing set. She now smiles a lot!
